The Journey there
Last summer I had the chance to visit Hungary's nicest regions around the Lake Balaton. Often referred to as the Hungarian Sea, Lake Balaton is surrounded by pretty and scenic places that make for a wonderful photoshoot. On the journey there, fields full of sunflowers hugged the road with the occasional mountainy areas where it got slightly colder. Once we arrived at the destination point, the weather took a turn for the better. Touring around Lake Balaton is not exactly the best in humid, way too hot or way too rainy weather, however May or August are pleasant times to make your visit to it. Here are some great scenic spots that I absolutely recommend visiting:
1. Hegyestű, the Needle Hill
One of the most breathtaking views, the Needle Hill, makes for great photography material. This basalt volcano that was once active some 8 million years ago, is a true sight to see. On the site, the visitors can build stone towers which makes for a fun family activity.
2. Veszprém, the city of Queens
Veszprém, located on the northwest side of the lake, is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited, especially at night. When we were there, there happened to be a full moon making the whole experience even more unbelievable. The most memorable were the beautiful gardens, the Saint Stephan viaduct, and the enchanting castles.
3. Tihany, the lavender wonderland
Full of beautiful lavender fields and artsy little shops, Tihany is a must! If you are a lover of lavenders or really any field of flowers, you will love Tihany and the lavender fields and little shops. They make all kinds of creative things ranging from food, drinks, decor to candles, wine, and basically anything you can imagine.
4. Lake Balaton, the main attraction
Last but certainly not least, the lake itself is a beautiful sight. If you are visiting in the summer, you can freely go for a swim or two, just watch out for seaweed! The bottom is muddy and quite soft, barely rocky. The surrounding streets are full of lovely markets with small businesses - you can find countless handcrafted goods, crystals, traditional wear and food.
